With 7 rounds & thousands of riders ready to race, here’s what a weekend at the 2018 BMX Australia National Series will look like

The countdown is on to the first round of the 2018 BMX Australia National Series at Penrith BMX Club, and with just 71 days before it kicks off on Saturday, February 17, the racing format has been released.

Unlike previous years, the series will have just one round per weekend, stepping away from the double-header format used in 2017. There will also be an increase in the number of classes offered in 2018, and as such the format of the new series will be reflective of the number of entered riders.

Kicking things off each weekend will be event registrations that will be held from 11am-3pm on the Saturday at each round. There will be no event registration on any Sunday.

In the instance where there are fewer than 550 entries, official practice will take place between 1-4pm on the Saturday, with racing to take place from 8:30am on Sunday with three motos, qualifiers and a final.

Where an event has 550-800 entries, practice will take place from 1pm-3:30pm on the Saturday with the first moto to also be run that day, commencing at 4pm. The Sunday commences at 8:30am and will see the second and third moto take place, as well as qualifiers and a final.

On weekends were there are 800+ entries practice will commence at 12:30pm on the Saturday, with motos one and two to commence from 4pm. Sunday’s racing will see the third moto, qualifiers and a final take place.

However the above schedule will not apply to Championship Classes at all UCI sanctioned rounds. These classes will only be run on a Sunday at each of those three events.

Practice sessions at events will be split into age groups and will be communicated at the close of entries for each round.
