Australian BMX riders who have qualified to attend the 2017 UCI BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, USA will have until Friday May 12 to confirm their attendance with the national team.

More than 3,300 riders from 40 countries are expected to descend on South Carolina for the first world championships on USA soil since Louisville, Kentucky hosted the event in 2001. There are also predictions that this years worlds will break the record for most participants.

You can read Australia’s world championship selection criteria HERE.

Last year 80 Aussies made their way to Medellin, Colombia to claim six world titles, nine second places and three third places. With the 2017 BMX Australia National Championships finishing last weekend, all eyes are on this year’s titles, where it is hoped that the Aussie contingent can taste more success.

Riders who have met the selection criteria for 2017 will receive an official letter of qualification this week. They will have until Friday May 12 to accept their offer to race at this year’s world championships.

Where riders decline the offer to race in Rock Hill, or where there is non-response to a letter of qualification, that rider’s position on the team will be offered to the first eligible reserve.

Reserves are asked to accept or decline their offer by Friday May 19.

Those attending, or hoping to attend this year’s world championships are encouraged to book their flights and accommodation through BMX Australia, who have secured competitive pricing on flights and accommodation for the event.

Accommodation in particular is fast becoming scarce for this year’s event in the USA. Accordingly BMX Australia has secured priority rooms within three kilometres of the Novant Health BMX Supercross Track in Rock Hill.
