A huge weekend of racing had riders from around the country get their own share of the action and helping to make the weekend more special was the celebration of BMX dads, the best dads going around.

This week’s Tales from the Berm by BAD BOY had another tough task of choosing what event would capture its spotlight.

From Friday August 30 to September 1, 33 events were recorded around the country and the top contenders included the Father’s Day Clubbie at Hawkesbury and the first round of the Fast Five Series at The Cove, but it was difficult to not look past the Geelong Spectacular on Sunday.

Across 47 competitive and participatory events, there were 350 entries recorded as 16 Victorian clubs were joined by South Australia’s Blue Lake representative Jaiden Picken, who competed in the 11-boy’s.

Headlining the day was the superclass categories, as another great opportunity was on offer to showcase the remarkable talent in Australia’s ranks.

Picking up the top spot in men’s was Bendigo’s Matthew White, while coming hot off his worlds performance in second was Jamie Truran, and in third was Sunbury’s Joshua McDermott.

On the women’s podium, Lilydale’s Julie Urben Di Giaimo is continuing her impressive 2019 picking up the first place while Bendigo’s Jaclyn Wilson finished second, and Knox’s Zoe Johnston in third.

Taking full advantage of their home track, Geelong’s Thunder riders were ready to claim their own piece of the podium and went about it in electrifying style.

The successful Geelong riders who finished in the top three were:

  • Shaun Brunton: FIRST, 35+ men’s masters open wheel
  • Brett Creswell: THIRD, 35+ men’s masters open wheel
  • Drew Halloran: FIRST, 8-girl’s
  • Tyra Cobain: THIRD, 8-girl’s
  • Jett Brunton: FIRST, 10-boy’s AND THIRD, 8-10 boy’s cruiser
