Darren Alomes, Katrina Harnwell and Cameron Murray elected to BMXA Board. Neil Cameron ’s two-year run as chairman of the BMXA board has come to its conclusion.
The 2018 BMXA Annual General Meeting (AGM) has seen South Australian Darren Alomes, Victorian Cameron Murray and NSW member Katrina Harnwell elected as directors of the board of BMX Australia.
As a result, Neil Cameron’s two-year run as chairman of the BMXA board has come to its conclusion.
During today’s meeting, the member states awarded eight votes to Alomes, six to Harnwell and five each to Murray and Cameron. Under the BMXA constitution, the way of breaking a tie in any vote at an AGM is for the sitting chairperson to have a casting vote.
As chair, Cameron cast his vote in favour of Murray, saying that he placed the integrity of the BMXA board above his own ambition.
“It was clear that there was not support for my continuing. If I had cast a vote for myself, it would have clouded the integrity of the BMXA board,” Cameron said.
“If, as suggested, another board member was given the power of a casting vote, it would have put that person in an untenable position. I did not want to see the integrity of the board questioned today.”
A new chair of the BMXA board will be elected at the first meeting of the board of directors. A date for that meeting has not yet been set.
