The youngest competitor in the team is birthday boy Harley Bradshaw (who turns 7 today!), racing in the 7-boy’s class, while our oldest competitor is 62-year-old Narelle Falkenhagen, who is competing in the 25 and over category in the 20-inch class and the 40+ cruiser class.

Leading the Aussie contingent is five-time world champion Thomas Tucker from Pine Rivers BMX Club and he is no doubt charging forward for his sixth world title at the age of 13. Another 2017 gold medallist looking to add to his resume is Shepparton’s Gian Renato in the 14-boy’s.

Looking back on the 2017 World Championships at Rock Hill, USA, Australia walked away with an outstanding three gold, six silvers and two bronze medals.

Returning to the challenge classes to go for gold in 2018 are Queensland riders Bailey Mills in the 10-boy’s, Kira Hill in the 14-girl’s and Portia Eden in the 11-girl’s.  Geelong BMX Club rider Cameron Gatt is also hunting for a gold after winning a bronze medal last year.

One to watch out for in Baku will be 16-year-old Des’ree Barnes from Beenleigh BMX Club who unfortunately missed out on a podium finish at Rock Hill but has been notching together some emphatic wins of late.

Another Beenleigh rider making the journey to Baku is 15-year-old Buddha Baum, one of many national title holders set to take on the world. Other national champions headed to Baku include Jack Davis (16-boy’s), James Lautier (17-24 men), Bianca Campbell (17-24 women), Jeorjia Kelson (8-girl’s), Fraser Vaughan (9-boy’s), Melanie Gibson (25+ women), and Noah Elton in the 12-boy’s.
