The second instalment of Western Australia’s ‘2020 Smarter than Smoking Super Series’ took place over the weekend with the best of the west racing at Southern Districts BMX Club. This week in the Tales from the Berm, we break down this fantastic day of racing.
Over 400 riders headed to Nerang BMX club on the weekend for the second round of the national series followed by the second round of the South Queensland shootout series. Both events were a huge success and produced some wonderful racing across the board.

However, it was the event on the other side of the country that caught our attention as BMXWA held the second round of their Smarter than Smoking Super Series. Over 400 riders partook in the day’s racing which included recent world cup participants Bradley Game and Rachel Gaskin, as well as over 20 entries for mini wheelers and over 100 entries for sprockets!

In the superclass, Game of Wanneroo was too hot to handle as he rode five laps and won five laps in a flawless performance. Bunbury’s Matthew Blake wasn’t too far behind in second with Joshua Cooke of The Hills in third.
Gaskin of Southside bounced back from second place in the first round at Bunbury to clean sweep the women’s superclass, besting The Hills’ Felicity Mann and Jayde Fabry-Roche of Cockburn.

The 8 years boy’s class had the biggest field across the board, with close to 30 entries from 11 different clubs. The future of BMX in Western Australia is looking bright!
The majority of the Western Australian clubs had more than one rider representing their home track and it was Byford BMX club that had the most successful riders of the day, boasting six wins out of the 34 races on the card.
