National Events Manager Joel Ulbricht will conclude a short, but impactful stint with BMX Australia today, after recently informing staff and board members of his desire to return to the festival and touring environment.

Ulbricht spent 14 months in the saddle as BMXA events management, and in that time managed to bring together a successful national series, while also putting together one of the best BMXA National Championship events on record.

Without hesitation Ulbricht went from domestic events to international, kicking into UCI BMX World Championships mode.

For the event in Rock Hill, USA, Ulbricht brought together an all-new Australian team uniform, which included a respectful nod to Australia’s Indigenous heritage. He was also the brains and driving force behind the Australian team enjoying an exclusive night with superstar rider Sam Willoughby.

In recent months, he played a key role in securing Bunbury, WA as the location for the 2018 National Championships. Planning for that event is already proceeding nicely, and no doubt there will be a touch of Ulbricht at next year’s event when the gate drops for the first practice session.

Away from events, Ulbricht was also a significant contributor to the rebranding of the sport, bringing his extensive experience to the table in a lengthy process.

BMXA CEO Martin Shaw expressed his gratitude to Ulbricht following his tenure at the organisation.

“Joel has contributed significantly to the sport of BMX in Australia in a short time,” Shaw said.

“Not only did he bring a wealth of experience to the sport in event management, he also displayed a great aptitude for listening to the members and putting together events that they enjoyed.

“I know he will also leave the sport with a lot of friendships made. I thank him for his tireless efforts and wish him well for his future endeavours.”

The search for Ulbricht’s replacement is currently underway.
