BMX NSW Chairman Martin Ward confirms that the Pre State Titles event will take place on the weekend of June 9-10, 2018 – despite a clash with the 2018 UCI BMX World Championships
“Big, unique and very, very special.”
They’re the words used by BMX NSW Chairman Martin Ward when describing the BMX NSW Pre State Titles event, and he’s not wrong.
The event is one of the most exciting on both the NSW and Australian BMX calendars and has traditionally been held over the June long weekend. In 2018 that will not change, despite the fact that the 2018 BMX World Championships will take place that same week in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The NSW Pre State Titles comprise four separate competitions, all which take place across the one event to create a weekend that is a smorgasbord of fun and action. The are as follows:
How to qualify for June’s Junior Test Team
In 2018 the BMXNSW supported Junior Test Team will compete in two events. The first leg of the Trans-Tasman Test, held at the BMX NSW Pre Titles in June, the second leg at the BMX NZ North Island Titles in October.
First and foremost, a rider who is a part of the Junior Test Team must be 11-years-old on June 1, 2018 to be eligible for the first team event (Australian leg), and aged 11 on October 20 to be eligible for the second team event (New Zealand leg).
NOTE: A rider might turn 12 on June 2/October 21 or any day leading up to the competition, but so long as they are 11-years-old on the day’s mentioned above, they will be eligible.
To qualify for the Junior Test Team to race at the June event, riders must race at the first round of the 2018 BMX Australia National Series at Penrith BMX Club. The four girls and four boys who record the fastest four lap times during their motos for this event will be selected.
Therefore a 10-year-old rider racing at the first round of the BMXA National Series, who will be 11 on June 1 could be selected for the team to race at the NSW Pre State Titles.
Selection for the October event in New Zealand will take place at the NSW Pre-Titles event, with riders who will be aged 11 on October 20 eligible to be on the team.
