Kai and Saya Sakakibara were joined by 2018 national champion Erin Lockwood in Sarrians for rounds seven and eight of the UEC BMX European Cup.

Round seven was Saya’s day, as the 19-year old beat home local French riders, Camille Maire and Manon Valentino in the women’s final to stand tallest on the podium. Her older brother Kai also had a successful day on the French track finishing in seventh position.

The following day held round eight of the 10 stage saga, with all three Aussies finishing in the top 16 of their respective classes.

While Saya claimed round seven, it was Kai’s day in round eight as the elite men’s rider finished second behind Frenchman Sylvain Andre and just ahead of Dutch rider Twan Van Gendt.

Saya finished her weekend with a spectacular performance, coming third, while Nerang’s Lockwood found herself in the semi-finals to finish 13th overall.

Next stop for these three is rounds five and six of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Saint-Quentin-En-Yvelines on June 8 and 9.
