The man behind the phone at the BMXA headquarters and he loves to have a chat!

If you have ever had to call the BMXA head office, you’ll have probably had a chat with our member services coordinator, Daniel Spence.

Always eager to pick up the phone and answer your questions, Spence is an energiser bunny in the office and loves helping out a BMXA family member in need.

Living in Sydney, Spence was looking to get into sport after completing his diploma of event management at TAFE South Western Sydney. Four years ago, the 24-year old applied for the member services coordinator at BMXA and has loved it from the get-go.

“Alongside processing memberships, answering general enquiries, helping with club administration, handling insurance/accident report forms and managing OSM and the BMXA App – I also work with Emily (the BMXA events manager) helping to set up at each and every event,” Spence said.

“I put up banners and flags, sort out accreditation, help out at registration and of course… pack it all up at the end!”

Before joining the team, Spence worked at many music festivals including a couple of gigs at the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium. He knew then that he wanted to work with people, and that he had a knack for it.

“Dealing with clubs is easily my favourite part about the job,” Spence explained.

“Getting to meet the wild and fun members around Australia and talk to them on a regular basis is a lot of fun. I get to tell them what is happening at their club and love hearing how happy they are when they get grants for their track and other benefits, they really do care.”

Alongside enjoying his time with members, Spence loves traveling around Australia for the national championships and national series, getting to see different parts of the country.

“Australia is a pretty awesome place. I had a blast last year especially diving with crocodiles in Darwin as well as just sight-seeing.”

“My favourite moment would have to be the nationals in Bunbury last year. It was well run and everyone worked really hard to make it a great event. I also loved getting a go on the jumping castle after the sprocket party was over,” Spence laughed.

Described as the ‘Energiser Bunny’, Spence is a big part of the BMXA team and loves doing what he does.

“I think I have a pretty cool gig, I get travel around Australia, talk to people over the phone and finally meet them in person at events… I also hope to have a couple of laughs as well,” Spence said.

“We have a great team in the office, and we all gel really well together. We have a wide range of ages and we are all in it for the right reasons.”

The Energiser Bunny wants to see more tracks pop up in Australia as well as more members participating at BMXA events which are open to all members across the country.

If you see Daniel running around the track, don’t hesitate to stop him and say hi, he loves and chat and always has time for a laugh.
