Round 1 of the 2018 BMXA National Series at Penrith BMX Club provided plenty of highlights, check them out here!
It all started with a welcome to the club, and a few words from Penrith BMX Club President, Tim Armstrong.
We chatted with Kurt Chapman for our local focus. He was racing the 16-boys event, and was unlucky not to race a final at home as he just missed the big show and finished ninth for the weekend. Overall, a top effort!
With a few formalities out of the way, it was time to get down to the business of on-track action and it began with Challenge classes racing motos one and two for the weekend. So we followed three riders and got their story, including Kurt, his Penrith BMX Club mate Nicola Fleming and Annino Vaccarella from Canberra BMX Club racing his first ever National Series round with his kids. Nice.
Before racing got underway for elites, and of course moto three for challenge classes, we sent Brad Shaylor and Saya Sakakibara for a flyer around the track, just to show us the ins and outs of where to make a gain. We loved this!
And then, BMXA National Coaching Manager, and 2008 Olympian Luke Madill ran his eagle eye over the track, just to give riders a coaching perspective of what we might see during racing.
Sunday was crunch time, and it was awesome to see our talented riders hit the track and have a crack at being the fastest through it.
There was drama at every berm and the crowd was providing non-stop encouragement all day. Check out Sunday’s Wrap below!
