Wyndham Warriors BMX Club has been abuzz with action today.
The 2018 BMX Victoria Open State Championships are underway at Wyndham Warriors BMX Club, and three days of intense racing are set to follow.
Catering for riders young and old, the weekend’s schedule sees retro classes take centre stage today, before all classes have a hit out for the official pre-titles racing later in the day.
At the time of writing the retro class finals were heating up, results at the link below.
Saturday will see sprockets hit the track, before the ever-popular cruiser classes get underway. Sunday will then see 20-inch racing hold court, including racing in the elite classes.
In the women’s elite classes those at the track will be treated to a five-way battle unfold. Ironically, not one Victorian rider will take the gate. Western Australian duo Kirsten Dellar and Catherine Hopkins, Queenslanders Ashleigh Gunn, Sarah Harvey and Courtney Stevenson and NSW rider Gemma-Lee Thomas will make up the class.
Meanwhile the elite men’s class will see brothers Bodi and Wade Turner race, as will other notable riders Brandon Te Hiko, Tom Siinmaa, Josh Callan and Matt White. There will be eyes on the skies too in anticipation of WA’s Joey Graham producing another backflip, just as he did at this year’s national titles.
In a nice touch to this year’s event, part of the proceeds from the event merchandise will be donated towards the #Strengthfor91 fundraiser that supports injured rider Sam Willoughby.
For those unable to attend the event, you can follow along on the event LIVE STREAM – LINK HERE.
Saturday November 18 will also see the 2017 BMXV Presentation Dinner take place. The evening will feature a two-course meal and drinks available for purchase. Awards will also be presented to riders.
