After spending the last four months overseas in Europe, taking on the rest of the world in the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup and the World Championships, the Sakakibara’s have returned to Aussie soil but not to their home in NSW.

Last week, the star-studded siblings made the trip to the Northern Territory where they spent five days at the Nhulunbuy BMX Club providing coaching sessions to riders in the area who are about to begin their state and national racing debuts.

“Saya and I were stoked to head out there as we have never been to the NT before, we could really feel the passion and drive that the club had for their kids to improve as riders,” Kai explained.

From Sunday July 8 to Friday July 13, the Sakakibara’s held eight sessions with two being open sessions and six specific sessions for 13 riders aged 10-12.

“It was the first time that Saya and I had ran an extended camp for a single group of riders,” Kai said

“To see the kid’s try things they hadn’t attempted before and conquer the challenges we set for them was a very rewarding experience for us.”

Each session had a specific focus which included, track skills, gates, tactical skills, psychology, off-track training and basic bike skills and the improvement in the group throughout the week was evident.

“The track had recently been resurfaced and was in fantastic shape, Saya and I were blown away by the facility they had created in such a remote part of Australia,” Kai continued.

“We hope that we have been able to raise the standard for the riders to continue to build upon and look forward to seeing the kids make their mark on the national stage in the years to come.”

The next stop for the Sakakibara’s is the fourth round of the 2018 BMX Australia National Series which heads to Nerang BMX Club this weekend, July 21-22.

Last time these two raced in the series was in the first round at Penrith BMX Club and both came away with resounding victories.

We can’t wait to see them back in the action and you can follow all the important announcements and results by following the event HERE!
