Cheers to bmxworldcup.com, the one and only Sam Willoughby delves into his ones to watch ahead of the 2020 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup.
Last week Australia’s greatest ever BMX racer Sam Willoughby gave us his thoughts on the men to watch in the first two rounds of the 2020 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup at the Shepparton BMX Club and now it’s time to look at the top women.
As coach of several world ranked female riders, including Aussie Lauren Reynolds and his own wife, Alise Willoughby, the reigning elite world champion, Sam is uniquely placed to give us a great insight.
Here are Sam’s top 5 women to watch!
Top 5 Women to Watch
Alise Willoughby – I obviously have to say Alise – we have set our sights on these two races and it’s the start of a huge 2020. She’s the world champion and I see what she does every day. Every race she goes in with a chance to win.
Laura Smulders – Laura is the world cup champ and is very good everywhere we go. Her consistency is incredible, and you only have to look at the stats to see that she means business.
Saya Sakakibara – One of the best female Aussie riders, who’s experienced a lot on these tracks and wants to make a statement. She’ll be hungry for sure.
Lauran Reynolds – My other favourite – I work with Lauren and she will be aiming high for these races. Similar to Anthony Dean in the men’s field, these two world cup rounds are the opportunity for her to put her name up there and create a breakout performance.
Mariana Pajon – Mariana is always a threat and it’s an Olympic year, she has two gold medals and obviously knows what to do. She’s been putting in the work coming back from a knee injury and looking to make a big statement.
