It’s that time of the year when we acknowledge the generous contribution of our sport’s volunteers as part of National Volunteer Week (18-24 May 2020).
This week marks the 31st anniversary of National Volunteer Week, the annual celebration organised by Volunteering Australia to acknowledge the contribution offered by more than six million Australians who give their time to help communities across the country.
This year’s theme is ‘Changing Communities. Changing Lives’ and BMX Australia are encouraging riders to join together to deliver a #thankyou message to the volunteer coaches, officials, administrator and the many others that are essential to our sport.
BMXA CEO Shane Coppin said the role that volunteers play in delivering BMX across the country and in supporting riders on their BMX journey should never be undervalued.
“BMXA wants to show our support to our volunteers through National Volunteers Week, in recognition of the many volunteers who make BMX possible for so many,” Coppin said.
“We want our riders from all over the nation to share a simple message of ‘thank you’, to the coaches, officials, canteen workers and everyone else that supports the enjoyment of BMX across Australia.
“Every single BMX competitor has been helped by volunteers at many points in their career and this week is our chance to say thanks.
“For some it’s their Mum or Dad who are the volunteers, for others it’s people they barely know, but for all of our members the theme is clear – we couldn’t do what we love doing in BMX without the volunteers.”
BMXA invites anyone involved in our sport to show their support during National Volunteers week and share a #thankyou message to volunteers who make sport possible, either face to face, or with the hashtags #NVW2020 #thankyou .
