There was BMX aplenty over the first weekend of Autumn with multiple state series events, clubbies and fundraisers happening from the east coast to the west coast. However, ‘Wolfdene’ BMX Open at Casey BMX Club is the focus of this week’s Tales from the Berm.
With the BMXA national championships countdown reaching the two-week mark, competitors from across the country are trying to get in as much riding before the trip to Launceston.
BMXSA held the third and fourth round of their state series, Hawkesbury Hornets BMX club and Penrith BMX club held a fundraiser clubby for #KaiFight77 with nearly 200 riders attending and South Queensland’s shootout series was back for its third instalment of the year.
BMX Victoria had a massive weekend of racing with the Victorian state series at Frankston BMX Club on the Saturday and the Wolfdene BMX Open on the Sunday. Across the two events, nearly 600 riders raced, a fantastic achievement!
Casey BMX Club, one of the youngest clubs in the country, held their annual Wolfdene open, with close to 200 hundred riders competing in an action-packed day of racing. Many riders made it a weekend of BMX with the majority racing the previous day in the state series.
Olympian Bodi Turner headlined a stacked men’s superclass with Max Cairns, Hayden Fletcher and local Patrick Bognar all racing. Cairns was the winner of the day, taking out the final in a well-matched field with the fastest time of the day.
On the women’s ledger, Victorian state champion Zoe Johnston dominated the day’s proceedings followed by current 40-44 women’s national champion Jacyln Wilson and Knox BMX Club’s Taylan Bonham,
Johnston wasn’t the only rider to not drop a lap all day with nine other riders boasting perfect motos.
• Liam Steinlauf, 8 boy’s, Eastfields BMX Club
• Stevie Halloran, 9 girl’s, Geelong BMX Club
• Reegan Schafter, 11 boy’s, Knox BMX Club
• Gracie Piergrosse, 11 girl’s, Portland BMX Club
• Callum Whitney, 14 boy’s, Mildura BMX Club
• Johanna Jpehcott, 17-24 women’s Ballarat-Sebastopol BMX Club
