Caroline Buchanan BMX champion
Canberra’s Caroline Buchanan is one of the world’s top BMX athletes. She has competed in two Olympic Games, winning a gold medal at London 2012 and competing with her family for Rio 2016 where she finished 8th overall after breaking her ankle during training weeks before competitions began.
One of Canberra’s most decorated sports stars, BMX cyclist Caroline “Caz” Buchanan took on the Olympics twice – once as an individual competitor who won Gold in London 2012 and again when she headed to Rio with three generations from her cycling-mad family (including dad Steve) aiming for their first ever result on this elite stage

As one of Australia’s most popular female action sports athletes she rules the BMX race course, excels in Downhill Mountain Biking, dominates the Dual Slalom and loves to take on a Pump Track!
Originally from Australia, Caro Buchanan has gained popularity in more than one country. She attended primary school at Duffy and high schools at Merici College Braddon or Erindale College before becoming engaged to American BMX rider Barry Nobles last year (2016). At 165 centimetres tall with a weight of 68 kilograms she is not short on personality either!
At age 16, Caro Buchanan was given a BMX bike by her dad. When she turned 18 and graduated from high school in Australia, Caro left for the United States to pursue an education at Oklahoma University where Barry Nobles is from. In September 2016 they became engaged after dating only 3 months! They married just last year on 9/9 so that their matching tattoos would represent them better as one 🙂
With her down to earth attitude, she has catapulted herself to be one of Australia’s most approachable sportswomen, being equally at home dodging trees downhill on a mountain bike as she is teaching young girls how to navigate their first run on the track.
Caroline’s personal values of equality, hard work and respect motivate her to live by one of her mottos – “overcoming what life throws at you makes you stronger”. With her influence and recognition in her field, she uses her platform to support and empower young women in sports, paving the way for the Next Gen.
