Stunt Pegs
Up to a number of four these items are located by where the wheels on a bike attach and allow you to do grinds and extend your list of trick opportunities. These are most commonly found on street and skate-park style BMX bikes.
Gyro System (Brake Detangler)
This intelligent braking technology allows for you to turn your handle bars around with the front wheel a full 360 degrees whilst maintaining a fully operational brake. And no, you don’t have to turn them back, You can turn your bars in any direction as many times as you like with your brakes pulling the same in all directions. This system allows for you to do many more tricks and also does not let cables get twisted and caught on anything which can be very handy for many first time riders.
3 Piece Cranks
The level of component will depend on the scale of price, Most affordable BMX bikes come with a one piece crank which fits directly through the frames bottom bracket system and higher end bikes com with 3 piece cranks which are lighter, much tougher so you do not have to replace the whole thing if just one section breaks.
Micro-gearing
Do you want to have the latest look with micro gearing? Well first off micro gearing has come along to prevent people from bending and breaking the classic larger tooth sprockets and so by having a smaller rear cog, you are enabled to run a smaller front sprocket whilst retaining the same gear ratio and feel as before. Many of today’s youths want this on their bikes for look and convenience.
Integrated Headsets
Having an integrated headset no only looks the part, but it makes fitment and servicing a whole lot more accessible. With perfectly machined bearings that push straight into the frame you can take advantage of smoother turning and easier maintenance.
Other things you may want to consider that should not go a miss are…
What Level are you going to be Riding at?
Riders of a higher standard of riding compared to just riding every now and then need a bike that is going to be a lot tougher and there for requiring stronger materials to be sure their bike will last as long as possible. Many higher quality bikes come with 100% 4130 chromoly tubing on the frames and fork as opposed to the standard high-ten steel used in many of today’s BMX bikes. This allows for lighter and longer lasting bike frames.
