Bmx Buyers guide

Check out my essential cheap BMX buying tips below as there are several points worth considering before you buy.

The Bike
Arguably BMX bikes are generally categorised into three types; true BMX or Bicycle Motor Cross, Freestyle, and Jumping. Studier and heavier framed BMX bikes are ideally suited to Jumping and Freestyle. If you are considering racing then BMX bike with lighter frames are for you. Adults should consider “full size” frames and children “min” frames.

The Budget
Tough economic times not withstanding there are a lot of good cheap BMX bikes out there. But it is always wise to stick to a budget. Leave a little room for essential gear such as a good helmet, elbow, and knee pads.
The old saying “you get what you pay for” is worth considering so please stay away from big box stores selling BMX bikes for $90. These bikes will fall apart the first time you take them off road and you may find yourself spending much more to keep the bike going than it was originally worth. I recommend you stick to the top brands. Think about second hand as you may get more bike for your buck but it is worth getting the bike expected, especially the frame, as you could be buying someone else’s problems.

Where to Buy
So you know what type of cheap BMX bike you want and how much to spend so where do you go to buy it? Check out your local bike dealer who will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have and recommend local BMX bike groups. Take any bikes you are interested in for a test ride and make sure you are happy with them. At this point don’t be afraid to check prices on line and see what deals can be done. Remember that building a good relationship with your bike dealer may help when you need speedy bike repairs in the future.

Cheap BMX bikes can be found on-line at sites like eBay and Craig’s list. eBay offer a more secure payment processing system but you may not always be able to inspect the bike before you buy it. I advise that you contact the owner to check the pedigree requesting more pictures it at all possible.

BMX is a fantastically fun sport to get involved with. If you are prepared to do a bit of research up front it can pay dividends later on ensuring you get the best deal for your money.
